It is National Volunteer Week and I want to talk about something that does not get said enough.
Volunteer fire departments are struggling.
Not because people do not care, but because many people think volunteering means putting on gear and running into a burning building.
The truth is, that is only one piece of it.
Departments need help in so many different ways. Kitchen crews. Administrative support. Fundraising. Community outreach. Support roles that keep everything running behind the scenes.
These departments are the backbone of our communities, and right now they need more people willing to step up in any way they can.
I have worked alongside these men and women for years and I can tell you this. Every role matters. Every person matters.
If you have ever thought about helping, this is your sign.
You do not have to be a firefighter to support your fire department. You just have to be willing to show up.
